Mauritius: 1.115 million tourists expected in 2015




Tourism revenues in Mauritius during the first semester of 2015 dropped by 3.5%, while at the same time tourists were more likely to land in Mauritius on the reference period (+ 8.9%), has recently reported the official agency Statistics Mauritius.
 
Between January and late June this year, it is thus 21.9 billion rupees (576.3 million euros) that has been locally generated against 22.6 billion rupees (597 million euros) harvested on the same calendar period of last year.
 
534,182 tourists have deposited their luggage in Mauritius for the first six months of 2015 against 490,697 recorded between January and June 2014. The number of travelers visiting Mauritius should reach 1.115 million visitors, representing an increase of 7 3% compared to tourist arrivals registered in 2014.
 
The estimated revenue of the tourism sector should for their part be close, in 2015, to 46.5 billion rupees (1.22 billion euros) and representing approximately over 11% of gross domestic product.
