Madagascar wants to host the 16th Summit of the international organisation of the Francophonie in 2016

The Malagasy authorities and its diplomacy activate behind the scenes to welcome on its soil in 2016 the 16th Summit of the international organisation of the Francophonie (OIF) after the failure of the holding of a Summit of the OIF in the island in 2010.

Thus on the sidelines of a meeting of the movement of non-aligned countries at Algiers on 26 and 29 may 2014, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar, Arisoa Lala Razafitrimo, has had informal meetings with Member States of the international organisation of the Francophonie (OIF) to obtain their support for the Malagasy bid, as indicated by the newspaper Les Nouvelles of Madagascar.

Madagascar was reinstated to the permanent Council of the institution at the end of the month of March, 2014 in the wake of the return to constitutional order after the five years of the Transition Plan.

As a reminder, Madagascar was suspended of the OIF in April 2009, following the accession to power of Andry Rajoelina and the exile of president Marc Ravalomana ousted in March 2009.
