Madagascar: the Island on the way to economic recovery according to the World Bank

The World Bank issued early in the week its paper on economic growth in Madagascar and previews that the island knows a slight recovery in growth in 2014 in the wake of an increase of 3% of gross domestic product (GDP) after several years of slow-motion, as reported by the newspaper Les Nouvelles of Madagascar.

"The year 2014 could be a year of growth, if it refers to recent developments in the global and local situation... The economic result for the previous five years thus ends with a disappointing record: GDP has stagnated with an average annual growth rate of 0.6% while the population grew at an annual rate of about 3% ", noted the World Bank in its macroeconomic analysis.

The financial institution notes, however, that acceleration of growth however depends on "the speed of the normalisation of the political situation which is one of the fundamentals of investment and donor supports decisions".
