While Madagascar imports about half of the flour used in the Big Island, about 100,000 to 120,000 tons, a local company "Les Moulins de Madagascar", a subsidiary of an American industry group, in reversing the trend by increasing for that, its current production of 50,000 tons of wheat flour.

The company plans as well to boost the activity of the mill based in Tamatave, in eastern Madagascar, which formerly belonged to the Tiko Group of the Malagasy President, deposed in 2009, Marc Ravalomanana.

"We are not able to meet all the needs of the local market. Yet, we have a factory in Toamasina. If it turns again, we should no longer be forced to import flour", specified Robin Raharivola director of the company"Les Moulins de Madagascar", to the site lexpressmada.com.
