Madagascar: difficult awareness among hoteliers and restaurateurs of the forthcoming ban on smoking in public places
While the Malagasy authorities have already introduced by decree banning smoking in public places in the island and which will be effective in one year, the advocacy role by the national Office of tobacco control (OFNALAT) had difficulties to bear fruit particularly with hoteliers and other restaurateurs of Tananarive.

The latter are extremely reluctant to the introduction of this measure which is likely to bring down to their customers according to them.

"It is estimated that the application of this order could reduce the number of customers so the profit", said on condition of anonymity a hotel manager of the Malagasy capital.

The workshop of the OFNALAT designed to educate professionals and catering accommodation in Tananarive on the upcoming ban on smoking in public places in Madagascar and is held in front of a sparse audience, as shown in the newspaper L'Express Madagascar.
