Madagascar: Villagers threaten to pursue thieves of zebu to their hideout, to avenge the death of a teenager
The victims of abuses thieves zebu (dahalo) in Amboasary region in southern Madagascar, decided to take up arms and pursue their attackers to their lair.

The death last Friday, of a 14 year old boy, kidnapped and killed during an attack by dahalo, raised a wind of anger among villagers who have decided in turn to soon lead a punitive expedition.

The villages of Andranovory and Ankarampotsy where are hiding the thieves of zebus after their raid on livestock, are in the crosshairs of angry villagers.

A sanctuary so far inviolate, even at the height of the military operation conducted by the Malagasy Tandroka elite troops against thieves of zebu, and where a young dahalo chef, aged 28 directs his troops to launch flights of zebu of large scale in the area.

700 cattle currently stolen find in this place of retreat, as the site lexpressmada.com relates.

Some elected officials in the region fear a bloodbath because dahalo are armed with Kalashnikovs.

Zebu theft comes from ancient Malagasy traditions, but always anchored in the morals. Symbol of manhood before marriage, criminal gangs have turned away from its original meaning, to make a lucrative trade.
