Madagascar: Vast police operation against illicit traffic of rose wood
 
A major police operation is underway since yesterday in the northeast of Madagascar.

Many soldiers are deployed on the ground to stop the illicit export of several tones of precious wood in scent to a suspicious boat parked off the coast in the region of Sava. Canoes and other boats take turns from the Mainland to supply the vessel at sea.

Rose wood, protected and endangered species at the heart of a prohibited trafficking, destination; Asia, despite the prohibition on slaughter and export by Decree in 2010. Traffickers operate a lucrative parallel market where a kilo of precious wood is traded at $ 500 (377 euro).
