Madagascar: Vast fire in the center of Tananarive, 41 families affected
A massive fire broke out at the beginning of the weekend, in the center of Tananarive, in the heart of the popular area of Antohomadinika.

41 families or 135 people were affected by the fire that destroyed the houses glued to each other.
A chain of solidarity began to emerge after the fire, which did not cause any casualties. Tents, blankets, candles and bags of rice were distributed to affected families as well.

"All the fruits of our efforts, for fifteen years, went up in smoke in a few minutes. There is nothing left to recover ... We are lost", laments mother of a family at lexpressmada.com site.

The urban planning policy of the city of Tananarive is also blamed by some residents who report that buildings are separated by only a few inches.

"This is a clear policy on housing and urban planning should be implemented. Indeed all those houses devoured by the fire are spaced only a few inches. This is the case of all households victims of fire in the neighborhoods", criticizes one of the inhabitants of Antohomadinika.
