Madagascar: Two million euros diverted from public schools in 2012

The General Directorate of the Treasury of Madagascar, which depends on the Ministry of Finance, announced Wednesday that more than two million euros (5.558 billion Ariary) were diverted in 2012 from several public institutions of the Big Island.

Five public structures are in the collimator and for irregular accounting: the National Center production of teaching materials, the National Institute of Teacher Training, National Institute of Public Health and Community, the Regional Centre for University of Antananarivo and the Faculty of Science of the University of Antananarivo.

The misappropriation of funds initiated internally by some senior managers of the Ministry of Finance and also some accounting officers "scammers" working in these public institutions is now closely monitored.

The General Directorate of the Treasury of Madagascar intends to tackle the root of evil, applying strict controls on all financial flows to prevent diversion. Severe sanction will henceforth penalize for all fraudsters who use loopholes in the system to enrich themselves personally.
