Madagascar: The wild silk and industry at risk
The sector of wild silk used by many handicraft industries is in danger Madagascar, with production dropped by 50% in 2012 on the Big Island.
 
A significant decrease which is due to the many wildfires that ravaged the natural habitat of wild silkworm.
 
The climate change with an increase of the thermometer in recent years, also severely hit to the colonies and changed their biological system, as related lexpressmada.com.
 
The proliferation of swarms that destroy vegetation where wild silkworm find food, amplified the phenomenon in Madagascar.
 
Faced with the threat of extinction of wild silkworm, private operators want to reforest devastated areas by planting mulberry and also begin to reintroduce up worm larvae ready to hatch.
