Madagascar: The vice-president of the World Bank on the move in the island

The vice-president of the World Bank, Makhtar Diop, is traveling to Madagascar for four days
The Vice President of the World Bank, Makhtar Diop, arrived on Thursday in Tananarive for a four-day trip.
 
Makhtar Diop had meetings with the Malagasy president Hery Rajaonarimampianina and Prime Minister Roger Kolo as well as several members of the Government.
 
Interviews with representatives of Madagascar private sector and the academic world as well as with partners in the development of the island are also on the program.
 
 A historic visit to the Malagasy authorities since it takes place ten years after that of another senior official of the institution in the person of the former Director of the World Bank James Wolfesohn, as reported in the newspaper La Tribune of Madagascar.
 
"This historical visit of the vice-president is testify the normalisation of relations between the World Bank and Madagascar. It will allow Makhtar Diop to soak up the realities of the country and strengthen the support of the institution in the development of the country programme to reduce poverty and improve the living conditions of the poorest populations, including access to health, education", said Mark Lundell, Director of operations for Madagascar.
