Madagascar: The tax agents on strike, the threatened state of not being able to secure the payment of salaries of civil servants
Approximately 1,800 tax agents in Madagascar have been on strike since Tuesday in the Big Island for claiming unpaid premium that they have not been paid since 2004.

A first for the tax authorities of Madagascar since its inception!

"These premiums are planned by law. They depend on the recovery effected by each agent. We also call transparency within the Ministry of Finance and Budget, because we do not even know the amount of these premiums calculated in function of tax revenue collected. A specialized service within the Department should take care of these calculations, while we are still not aware", said a union representative of tax officials of the Big Island, to the site midi madagasikara.mg.

If the strike agents of taxes endure, certain economic monitors hypothesize that the Malagasy State, already weakened in this period of political instability, cannot ensure in term the payment of wages officials and its operating expenditures.
