Madagascar: The rainy season jeopardises the rehabilitation of roads in the Island

While the rainy season has begun with recently sporadic rainfall events, major roads in Madagascar are still in a considerably degraded state.

The rehabilitation work on several major highways namely on highways * 2 and 4 already started in October, are slow to be completed in the Island.

Thus in Tananarive and its outskirts, as soon as the rains fall down on the road network, the holes that were previously filled a few months ago again reappeared on the asphalt.

This slowed down considerably the traffic and causes jams at several parts of the capital, as reported by the newspaper L'Express de Madagascar.

The same situation with a damaged roadway is recorded on the side of Tamatave and Majunga.

* National Route 2 between Tananarive and Toamasina in eastern Madagascar, highway 4 between Tananarive and Mahajanga in the northwest of the Island
