Madagascar: The insufficient number of midwives to fight against infant mortality

Madagascar: The insufficient number of midwives to fight against infant mortality
While international health standards advocate in proportion a midwife per 5,000 inhabitants, Madagascar should have 4400 professional able to exercise on the Big Island.

However, midwives identified in Madagascar are only 2872 to fight especially against the high maternal and neonatal mortality.

Out of 100,000 births in Madagascar, a little more than 450 mothers thus die during pregnancy or childbirth.

Infant mortality also crossed the 50 deaths per 1,000 births registered.
