Madagascar: The former president, Didier Ratsiraka, a candidate in the presidential election
The former president, Didier Ratsiraka, 76, returned last Thursday, April 18in Madagascar after eleven years of exile in France, did submit an application for the first round of the presidential election on 24 July, by Razafimahefa Monfort, a member of the Arema party, as related by the madagate.com site.
 
The admiral Didier Ratsiraka was in power in Madagascar for 21 years, from 1975 to 1991 and from 1993 to 2001, leading the Big Island on the principles of socialist communist revolution.
 
Didier Ratsiraka left Madagascar in 2002 to go into exile in France after the presidential election of 16 December 2001.
Marc Ravalomanana and Didier Ratsiraka then disputed the democratic result of the first ballot.
