Madagascar: The bamboo sector has already attracted 905 artisans in the Island
Some 653 nurseries and 905 artisans currently operating in the bamboo sector of Madagascar, as indicated by the Midi Madagasikara newspaper.
 
According to the Malagasy authorities, the bamboo industry is economically viable with opportunities to generate income and create jobs locally. 
 
As a reminder, in the field of marketing support and rural businesses, the PROSPER project (1) supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and wants to develop the exploitation of bamboo - nursery to finished products (2) - in the South and Southeast of Madagascar in Haute Matsiatra and the Vatovavy Fitovinany.
 
On 1,200 species of bamboo identified in the world, 32 are endemic to the island of Madagascar alone.
 
As a reminder, the integration of Madagascar in the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) was cohosh in 2010.
