Madagascar: The World Bank provides 400 million dollars over three years for the social development of the island

The vice-president of the World Bank, Makhtar Diop, traveling to Madagascar, announced on Monday that the institution is preparing to unlock by 1 July next 400 million over three years to help the social development in the island.
Makhtar Diop said that these funds will be used to fund social projects 'the fight against malnutrition' and promoting 'social protection' as well as the construction or rehabilitation of infrastructure in Madagascar, including the many bridges damaged in the country.
The World Bank also wants to help the new Government of Madagascar to find paths of economic growth to cope with the scourge of poverty that is rife in Madagascar and urges the Malagasy authorities to engage in a sustainable macroeconomic policy with a reduction of the budget deficit, as reported by the newspaper Courrier of Madagascar.
