Madagascar: The Ratsiraka movement does not support any candidate for the second round of the presidential election

The recent appointment of Eugène Mangalaza, close to Didier Ratsiraka, between the two rounds of the Malagasy presidential election, as campaign Director of Jean-Louis Robinson, threw the disorder on the Malagasy political chessboard with backdrop of a possible endorsement of the former strong man of Madagascar for 21 years from 1975 to 1991 and from 1993 to 2001.

By an official statement, the AREMA party (the vanguard for the renovation of Madagascar) and the movement of Didier Ratsiraka claim not to support any candidate for the second round of the presidential election of December 20, as relates the newspaper L'Express of Madagascar.

"Some regulars at the political fawning posed the sound of alleged support of president Ratsiraka to candidacy in the presidential election of Jean-Louis Robinson. President Ratsiraka, as well as the movement that he leads and the AREMA party had again the opportunity to reiterate their objection to the holding of the presidential election in the political context prevailing in Madagascar, and thus don't support any candidate, whatever it is. Until evidence to the contrary, this position taken before the elections has not changed between the two rounds unless President Ratsiraka himself declared", explains the press release.
