The Minister of the Interior and decentralization, Olivier Mahafaly, said that his Ministry has been the subject of some 300 applications for new local authorities, municipalities and regions.

Olivier Mahafaly recently indicated that a special session of the National Assembly shall consider the matter after the parliamentary debates of the regular session of the month of October.

A proposed law for the establishment of these new local authorities will therefore be subject to MPs for approval or rejection, as reported by the newspaper Madagascar Tribune.

As a reminder, 1,549 municipalities and 22 regions are now counted in the Island.
