Madagascar: The French authorities do not mark the return of the former president Marc Ravalomanana a priority

The return of the former Malagasy president Marc Ravalomanana, deposed and exiled since 2009 in South Africa, hardly seems a priority for the French authorities.

It is at least what highly suggest the remarks made in late last week by the French Ambassador in Madagascar, François Goldblatt, on the sidelines of the celebration of the Russian national celebration in the Russian diplomatic mission in the island as reported by the newspaper L'Express of Madagascar, which explains that France prefers to leave this matter to the President Hery Rajaonarimampianina.

"We are interested in all subjects (Malagasy), but frankly the return of former head of State is not our priority," said the French Ambassador to Madagascar, François Goldblatt.

As a reminder, in March, the Attorney general to the Court of appeal had recalled that Marc Ravalomanana should be arrested once he will be back in Madagascar.

Convicted of murder and complicity in murder August 28, 2010 by the Court of Tananarive, Marc Ravalomanana was sentenced in absentia to forced labor in perpetuity for the death of thirty demonstrators February 7, 2009, outside the presidential palace.
