Madagascar: The European Union sends election observation mission in the island
The European Union has decided to send a mission of observers to oversee presidential Madagascar including the first round will be held October 25 and with a second round set to 20 December at the same time as the legislative elections.

This mission arrived yesterday composed of 44 electoral experts with its leader Maria Muñiz, Member of the European Parliament, thus joined 9 observers already on-site.

50 more observers will be sent just prior to the first round of presidential elections.

The mission will then publish a first preliminary report just after the closure of polls and shall submit its recommendations to the Malagasy authorities to improve the electoral process in the island.

The European observation mission does not however leave the Malagasy soil before the final vote count and possible procedures involved.

As a reminder, the 33 candidates competing for accessing the highest office in the country will be decided at the polls by about 7.7 million of Malagasy voters.
