Madagascar: The European Union grants the sum of 227.000 euro to fight against low female representation in Communes




The project "Women and elections" of NGO Genderlinks, based in South Africa, and which aims to involve more Malagasy women in public life and in decision-making was officially launched Tuesday at the hotel Colbert of Tananarive.
 
Project deployed over two years in four regions, namely, Melaky, Diana, Androy and Anosy, thus account to prepare approximately 640 Malagasy women the next communal elections or allow them to integrate local administrations with management skills in the term.
 
The NGO Genderlinks 'Women and elections' project is funded by the European Union to the tune of 227.000 euro, to combat low female representation in the organs of power locally, as reported by the Midi Madagasikara newspaper.
 
As a reminder, on the 1.549 commune in Madagascar, there are only 4% of women mayors and only 6% of women councilwomen.
