Madagascar: Temporary Suspension of the operation of mangrove crab in the island

As had advocated the Commission of the Indian Ocean earlier this month, the Malagasy Government has recently enacted the suspension provisionally of any operation of mangrove crabs in Madagascar, as reported by the Midi Madagasikara newspaper.

"Fishing, collection, sale, purchase, transport, hawking, implementing conservation and the export of crabs" be more authorized from 1 September to 31 October 2014, and this because of the over-exploitation of resources.

As a reminder, 2 tons in 2009, 800 tons in 2013 and already 1,400 tons halfway through the year 2014: the export of live crabs thus exploded in recent years in the island.
