Madagascar: Start of the campaign of the FAO in November against locusts
The Organization of United Nations for Food Agriculture (FAO) and the Ministry of Agriculture completed the diagnostic phase in the field of the locust threat in Madagascar in the regions of Mahajanga, Besalampy Soavinandriana, Tsiroanomandidy , Morondava, Ankazoabo and south of the island, as related by the newspaper L'Express of Madagascar.

According to the program jointly defined by the two speakers, treatment of the locust-infested areas by air begin initially in the region of Tulear, located in the South of Madagascar, with operations of spraying pesticides from 1 November, and this, after receiving material and equipment.
 
Swarms of locusts since April 2012 have caused big damage to plantations of corn, rice and other cereal crops, with several parts of the island to almost 70%.

FAO has collected 23 million dollars (17 million euros) for this program of fight against locusts in Madagascar, and commit 41.5 million dollars (30.7 million euros) over three years in this effect.

This program has for aim to treat more than 2 million hectares infested by locusts.
