Madagascar: Spectacular increase in the price of rice in the Island




Rice has experienced in almost two months an impressive increase in its price which is currently around 2,000 ariarys per kilo against * 1200 ariarys before.
 
The Malagasy authorities denounce on their side a speculation on the part of some operators in the market, since the stock of rice (imports and harvests 2014) currently elapsed for sale has been established before tropical storms (Chedza and Fundi) and also before the last major floods that had hit the country a few weeks ago.
 
Inspections shall be conducted to find concealed voluntarily rice stocks that make artificially raise the price of the staple food of the Malagasy.
 
Moreover, the global prices of rice is falling, remind the authorities.
