Madagascar: Shops looted in Tulear the sidelines of a political rally
On the sidelines of a political meeting held last Saturday in Tulear, in the southwest of Madagascar, by the Democratic Movement of Madagascar (MDM) chaired by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and candidate for the next presidential elections in May 2013, Pierrot Rajaonarivelo, serious disorders erupted.

80 people armed with sticks and clubs swept in the shopping area of the city of Tulear to commit numerous abuses and thefts. The shops were target of stone-throwing and the stores were vandalized and looted within a few minutes.

The police called in reinforcements, fired in the air to stop the looting and restore public order. In the entourage of Pierrot Rajaonarivelo we deny any liability for shouting at conspiracy orchestrated to sully the political reputation of MDM within the local population of Tulear.
