Madagascar: Securing the electoral process after the grenade attack against the house of the president of the special electoral court
After the offensive grenade explosion on Thursday in front of the house of the president of the special electoral court, François Rakotozafy, located in the heart of the city of the 67 Ha-North in Tananarive, the authorities have decided to strengthen the security of the electoral process in the wake of the first round of the presidential elections scheduled on 25 October next in Madagascar.

An urgent meeting between,  the Independent National Electoral Commission for the Transition (CENIT), the Ministry of the Armed Forces, the Department of Homeland Security, the Ministry of Finance and the General Secretariat of the National Gendarmerie held Mahazoarivo to ensure security around the conduct of the presidential and legislative elections in island.

A sum of 2.5 million euros will be thus unblocked for the moment by the only Malagasy Ministry of finance for the police, gendarmes and military which shall ensure public order on the ground.

"This amount is the minimum, but everything depends on the possibility of the State. The elections securing financing is indeed supported by the Government of Madagascar, so far... All will have to ensure that the sum required for securing the elections is sufficient," said general Rakotoarimasy.

The CENIT President Béatrice Atallah has for its part, declared that she will soon meet Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union in Pretoria, in South Africa to discuss the financing of the security of the electoral process in Madagascar.
