Madagascar: Rice production is expected to reach 4.3 million tons according to the FAO

According to the latest FAO forecast *, rice production in Madagascar will drain in its wake 4.3 million tons of rice at the end of the campaign 2014  after a harvest in 2013 "particularly difficult" and should thus be the tonnage registered in 2012, as shown in the newspaper Courrier of Madagascar.

The campaign has been notably improved due to the locust fight the island against migratory locusts, as explained by the food and agriculture organisation of the United Nations.

As a reminder, imports of rice in Madagascar have been twice greater between 2012 and 2013, a record in this area.

More than 410,000 tons of rice in 2013 were imports that is the double of 2012 imports.
