Madagascar: Researchers from the Africa Rice on mission in the island in September next




In order to improve production in Madagascar, several researchers from the rice center of Africa (Africa Rice) will move into the island in September and will work in concert with local authorities for the introduction of new varieties of rice within cultures, as reported by the newspaper L'Express of Madagascar.
 
Madagascar, exporter of rice in the 1970s, is now importing.
 
Imports of rice in Madagascar have been two times greater between 2012 and 2013, a record in this area.
 
More than 410,000 tons of rice in 2013 comes from imports.
 
As a reminder, the Africa Rice Center is a pan-African research organisation that works to improve livelihoods on the continent.
 
Its primary mission is the reduction of poverty and food security in Africa through research and development activities help to increase the productivity of the rice sector.
