Madagascar: President Hery Rajaonarimampianina will plead in Brussels for a financial extension as part of the 11th European Development Fund

The Malagasy president, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, attends the two days meeting of the 4th Summit Africa-Europe this Wednesday and Thursday in Brussels.

The new strongman of Madagascar wants particularly to plead the cause of his country to get an extension cord financial under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) for the period 2014-2020, which is currently at 455 million euro for the island, as reported by the newspaper Courrier of Madagascar.

"The 10th EDF amounted to EUR 577 million. It will therefore be more appropriate that the 11th EDF is much greater than its previous. It should be recalled that we have lost nearly 250 million euros during the 10th EDF... The Summit also marks the return of Madagascar within the concert of Nations, after the sanctions related to the crisis. We are currently in the process of lifting of these sanctions of the European Union, according to article 96 of the Cotonou Agreement'’, recalled on Monday at Ivato airport president Hery Rajaonarimampianina before his departure to Brussels.

As a reminder, this European Fund will be however unlocked after the establishment of the new Malagasy Government after five years of political and institutional crisis experienced by the island as well as in the wake of the lifting of sanctions from the Cotonou agreement of June 2010 and of article 96.
