While the steps to obtain a visa to go to India are taken since last Tuesday via internet, the Chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of India in Madagascar, Madan Lal Raigar recalled that "more than 5,000 visas are issued by the Embassy every year".

"Between 70 and 80% of demand are visas for tourism", he said, as reported by the Midi Madagasikara newspaper.

After completing online form, the applicant receives a registration number. Then upon the filing of his application at the Embassy of the India, photos are taken.

The fingerprints of the applicant are also required for the establishment of the biometric data on visa that costs at least 94,000 ariary * for the completion processing of the file.

"All embassies of India in more than 160 countries now practise this same procedure of visa application. It is our Government's project to ensure better security for the free movement of persons, while avoiding the possible falsification of visa," said the Chargé d'affaires Madan Lal Raigar.
