Madagascar: Malagasy Litchi wants to entice the South African market

The lychees in Madagascar traditionally exported to Europe now wants to seduce the South African market with its juicy red shell.

Discussions are currently ongoing between Malagasy exporters and South African importers.

But the finalisation of the agreement should be then decided by the Governments of the two countries.

A hundred tons of Malagasy lychees would thus be sent by the end of the year 2014 to South Africa, according to the newspaper L'Express of Madagascar.

As a reminder, 18,000 tons of Lychees were headed to European markets during the last export season.
