Madagascar: José Manuel Barroso invited Hery Rajaonarimampianina to put in place a Government of opening

In a letter sent to the new Malagasy president, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, the president of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso welcomed the election of Harry Rajaonarimampianina in the wake of the peaceful process of democratisation in the island.

For José Manuel Barroso, "these elections are an important step towards the return to constitutional order as well as towards the normalisation of relations between the island and the European Union".

"They represent an opportunity for the movement towards the rule of law, healing and reconciliation, recovery and development which your country needs so much after five years of political and socio-economic crisis particularly serious", stressed the president of the European Commission.

José Manuel Barroso also invites Hery Rajaonarimampianina to adopt a posture of national reconciliation, with the establishment of a Government, representative of all the political sensitivities of the Malagasy Exchequer, as indicated in the Midi Madagasikara newspaper.

Already a few days ago, the Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon had advanced the same position in his letter of congratulations to the new Malagasy president, Hery Rajaonarimampianina.
