The international contact group for Madagascar (ICG - M), composed of representatives of the southern African development community of (SADC) and the African Union (AU), met last Friday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia calls in a statement the international community to a humanitarian emergency to the island.

The GIC - M thus evokes "the need for a strong mobilization and within the duration of the international community in support of the process of socio-economic rehabilitation of Madagascar", to create an environment conducive to the holding of presidential and legislative elections, after the disqualifications of election to the highest office on 25 October of the transitional President, Andry Rajoelina, Lalao Ravalomanana and Didier Ratsirakaas as relates the newspaper L'Express of Madagascar.

The ICG-M justifies this request emergency humanitarian aid to cope on the ground "to the problems posed by poor rice crop this year and the locust invasion as well as the ensuing food insecurity and impact on the current situation".

The international contact group for Madagascar also warns "all Malagasy stakeholders who would be tempted to impede the process underway and to call into question the significant progress registered at the cost of efforts".
