Madagascar: FAO allocates 316,000 dollars for the development of goat breeding in the Island

The United Nations for Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recently granted 316,000 dollars for the development of breeding in Madagascar.

The small ruminant breeding is mainly situated in the Southwest of the Island. The grazing herds of goats are part of the peasant production systems established in arid and semi-arid south.

In addition the demand for goat meat should increase eventually because zebu, the main source of meat for the Malagasy, might no longer be adequate to meet the high demand throughout the country.
