Madagascar: Endemic freshwater fish to 95% in the island

According to a recent study published in a specialised environmental journal, Madagascar freshwater fish are endemic to 95% with more than 60 listed families.

Scientists have thus highlighted "extraordinary and rare diversity" Malagasy aquatic fauna.

However the study also pointed out that some species are threatened by heavy fishing in the rivers and marshes of the island, like including the "gogo" or Arius Madagascariensis "vaona" or Anchariusfuscus and the "masovoatoaka" or Paretroplus polyactis, as indicated in the Courrier of Madagascar newspaper.
