Madagascar: Draft Ordinance of the Council of Ministers for a voluntary withdrawal of controversial candidates of the next presidential election
The Council of Ministers of the Transitional Government had adopted last Friday a draft order in the wake of the upcoming presidential elections that could lead to the voluntary withdrawal of the controversial candidates of the polling (Andry Rajoelina, Lalao Ravalomanana and Didier Ratsiraka) designated by the electoral Special Court (CES) on May 3.

The President of the Transition, Andry Rajoelina will have to sign this order so that this Ordinance is enacted, which however excludes new possible candidatures in the Malagasy presidential election.

The draft ordinance that is in line with choices of the international community should also be subject to constitutional review in the High Constitutional Court of Madagascar.

Once enacted and under a period of 2 days, if no voluntary withdrawal, or referral to the Court special election, newly restructured, on possible irregularities, the list of 41 candidates for the next presidential elections, postponed for the time being sine die will be endorsed.

According to the newspaper midi - madagasikara.mg, the pattern of release with the voluntary withdrawal of Andry Rajoelina from the Malagasy presidential race, would have already been accepted by the current President of the Transition and still supreme judicial candidate.

The other candidatures of Lalao Ravalomanana and Didier Ratsiraka would then be eliminated by the new CES.

As a reminder, the entourage of the current President of the Transition, has always implicitly acknowledged that if the other two candidates gave up to stand as candidates in the Malagasy presidential election, Andry Rajoelina would align with the same position.
