Madagascar: Development of bamboo in regions of Haute Matsiatra and Vatovavy Fitovinany




In the field of marketing and rural enterprise, the project PROSPERER (1) supported by the Ministry of Agriculture wants to develop the exploitation of bamboo – tree nursery to finished products (2) - in the South and southeastern Madagascar in the region of Haute Matsiatra and Vatovavy Fitovinany.
 
Some 1200 species of bamboo listed around the world, 32 are endemic to the island of Madagascar.
 
As a reminder, the integration of Madagascar within the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) was effective in 2010, as reported by the newspaper Courrier of Madagascar.

(1) Program of support to rural micro-enterprises clusters and regional Economies of Madagascar (PROSPERER) 
(2) Craft products, charcoal heater and other furniture and construction of house
