The current president of the Transition, Andry Rajoelina, and candidate for the first round of presidential elections on July 24, announced that he will resign before May 26, if the electoral calendar is maintained.

"If we can ensure that the elections will indeed take place on July 24, I will respect the 60 days", said Andry Rajoelina, as related lexpressmada.com.

"The question that arises today is: will the presidential election still be held on 24 July". I have no doubt, this is the reality... The international community has taken a decision to suspend funding. Will the elections be held? It is a question to ask the international community. Personally, I doubt it. At the stage where things are going, I don’t think so, I doubt, I ask myself a question, is this going to be held", said Andry Rajoelina.

As a reminder, the European Union has suspended its funding program to support the electoral cycle in Madagascar (PACEM), which amounts to 13 million euro, following nominations of Lalao Ravalomanana, Didier Ratsiraka and Andry Rajoelina.

The African Union has demanded for his immediate removal from the three candidates who have already rejected this possibility.
