Madagascar: AGOA is expected to generate 1 billion dollars of turnover in five years

While Madagascar is again eligible for AGOA since late last June with the exemption of tariffs for its textile products to the United States, the United States international development agency recently reported on the economic potential of the sector to the island.

Export, which will be effective in January 2015 for the grouping of free enterprises and partners (GEFP) should generate for five years about a billion dollars of turnover and create 200,000 jobs in Madagascar, as reported by the newspaper Courrier of Madagascar.

As a reminder, 30 countries of sub-Saharan Africa benefit from AGOA for their export of textile products to the United States.

The Malagasy president, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, had travelled to the United States in March last to argue for the reinstatement of his country within AGOA.
