Madagascar: A new apostolic nuncio for Madagascar

Pope Francis recently appointed Monsignor Paolo Rocco Gualtieri, an Italian citizen, apostolic nuncio to Madagascar and has been brought up to the dignity of Archbishop of the titular see of Sagona. He thus succeeds Bishop Eugene Martin Nugent, originating of Ireland, who left the Island last February to Haiti.

Monsignor Paolo Rocco Gualtieri was born in 1961 on the side of Supersano and integrated in orders in 1988 in the Diocese of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca, where he officiated as a priest.

The new Apostolic Nuncio of Madagascar will then continue his vocation assigned to the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1996. He has worked at the service of Vatican in Papua New Guinea, the Dominican Republic and in the heart of relations with states.

Graduated in canon law and dogmatic theology, Monsignor Paolo Rocco Gualtieri is fluent in French, English and Spanish.
