Madagascar: 390 logs of the precious wood seized in the region of Manambolosy

The Malagasy authorities have recently seized 390 rosewood logs - freshly cut - at the heart of warehouse in the Manambolosy region in the north east of Madagascar.

According to the Malagasy gendarmerie, the identity of the warehouse owner has not been identified for now but the establishment has been placed under discreet police observation.

As a reminder, rosewood, a protected species in danger of extinction, is at the heart of a prohibited traffic to Asia.

Traffickers exploit a lucrative black market where a kilo of the precious wood is sold at around 500 dollars (403 euros).
