Madagascar: 300 tons of dried sea cucumbers sold for exportation each year




The collection of sea cucumbers very sought by Asians and which are sold once dried around the 1,000 dollars per kilo in Hong Kong markets is overexploited in Madagascar.
 
300 tons of dried sea cucumbers (3 million units) leave for export each year according to customs of the island.
 
The practice of fishing with diving cylinder is strictly prohibited on the Malagasy waters, as reported by the newspaper Courrier of Madagascar.
 
As a reminder, a female sea cucumber can lay hundreds of thousands of eggs at the time if its natural environmental conditions are optimal.
