Madagascar: 270,000 euro from EU and AFD destined for the Malagasy prison universe

While the conditions of incarceration in Malagasy prisons are often difficult, the Ministry of Justice of Madagascar has recently signed a partnership agreement with the humanitarian association Handicap International.

Funding to the tune of 270,000 euro has thus been allocated by the European Union (EU) and the Agence française de développement (AFD).

"We will work not only with the Ministry of Justice but also with civil society and prison officers," said the official of Handicap International project in the island, Stéphanie Houdayer.

Four prisons are involved in this project of humanisation of the Malagasy prison universe, in this case the penal centers of Vatomandry, Antanimora, Mahajanga and Tamatave, as indicated in the Courrier of Madagascar newspaper.
