Madagascar: 17,000 tons of litchis export to foreign markets

The harvesting season of litchi in Madagascar started since November 17 on the Island.

17,000 tons of litchis are expected for export according to the forecast of the industry.

For this end of year, the juicy red fruit has a better taste, with climatic conditions that favored its development.

France and Germany in particular receive 90% of the exports of Malagasy litchis.

As a reminder, the litchi industry introduced in 2012 in its orchards in the Tamatave region in the east of the Island, a new species of juicy fruit with red hull.

Maximum diameter of 53 mm with a small core, the new Malagasy litchi inherited a better taste with more sweet flesh to savor.

Features that allow this new variety of litchi to conquer export markets, with all the arguments to attract at the chain end its greedy customers.

18,000 tons of litchis took the lead of European markets during the last export season.
