Heritage Resorts, Rogers and Villas Valriche have partnered in sponsoring Ludovic Bax the first ever Mauritian player to become a member of a professional Tour. Bax received his card to play on the Sunshine Tour through the Affiliated Member status following a nomination by the Mauritius Golf Federation.

Bax at age 22 was the first Mauritian to tee off on the European Tour when he participated in the inaugural AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in 2015. He first started playing golf aged 10, and has represented Mauritius at the Eisenhower Trophy which is golf’s leading amateur team event. He also has experience of playing alongside veteran professional golfers at various tournament Pro-Am events, including the Air Mauritius Trophy. Bax also recently participated in the IGT Pro Tour Houghton Open where he finished in the top 50 of the tournament.

“I am very excited about my nomination onto the Sunshine Tour. This is an amazing opportunity for me to move forward with my professional golfing ambition. Thank you to all the sponsors for their support, and to the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open for affording me the once in a lifetime opportunity last year to participate in the first ever tri-sanctioned tournament of the Sunshine, European and Asian Tours as an amateur. I am looking forward to playing in this year’s tournament as a professional,” said Ludovic Bax.

The sponsorship will cover items including golf equipment, travel and accommodation when he plays in professional golf tournaments. As part of the agreement Bax will also have the honour of using the award winning Heritage Golf Club as his home club in Mauritius. The Heritage Golf Course received the title of “Best golf course in the Indian Ocean” at the World Golf Awards in 2014 and 2015.

"The Heritage Golf Club is extremely proud of Ludovic and what he has achieved so far in his golfing career as the only Mauritian to have played on the professional circuit. He shows the passion, talent and dedication that it takes to make it on tour and we have no doubt that we will see his name on the leader boards of the Sunshine, IGT and European tours soon. We are especially proud that Ludovic, as the number 1 golfer in Mauritius, has chosen the number 1 golf course, Heritage Golf Club, as his home club. Ludovic is an inspiration to Mauritian golfers and we wish him all the best as he participates on the various tours in 2016."

“The Mauritius Golf Federation is focused on developing the sport of golf in Mauritius, and we would like to congratulate Ludovic on becoming the first Mauritian to be a member of a professional Tour. We are confident he will continue to share his golf knowledge and skills with other upcoming Mauritian golfers as he progresses with his career. Let me take this opportunity to also thank Rogers, Villas Valriche and Heritage Resorts for showing their commitment to growing golf in Mauritius as evidenced by their sponsorship of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, and Ludovic,” said Christophe Cure, President of the Mauritius Golf Federation.

“Congratulations to Ludovic Bax. We wish him a very fruitful career. We have no doubt he will raise the Mauritius flag high when he participates in this year’s AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open,” concluded Ryan Dodds, Chairperson of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open Organising Committee.
