Eradicate zebu thieves by means of heavy artillery

While the police have paid a heavy human cost in recent weeks in tracking down thieves of zebu (dahalo) the Prime Minister Jean Ravelonarivo wants to eradicate dahalo present in large numbers in Southern Madagascar.

Brigadier General Jean Ravelonarivo has discussed the employment of heavy artillery to terminate insecurity of these criminal gangs. Last week, Major General, Beni Xavier Rasolofonirina, chief of the General Staff of the Malagasy army had instead emphasized "a strategy aimed at securing the population and not to attack dahalo", as reported by the orange.mg website.

As a reminder, zebu theft originates from ancient Malagasy traditions, but still well established in the hinterland. Symbol of virility before marriage, criminal gangs have turned away from its primary sense, to turn it into a lucrative traffic in Madagascar.
