Didier Robert succeeds Alain Saint Ange at the head of the Vanilla Islands

The President of the Regional Council, Didier Robert, was appointed on Wednesday to the Presidency of the vanilla Islands in the margins of the international exhibition of tourism of Tananarive and took the place of the Minister of tourism and the Culture of Seychelles, Alain Saint-Ange, who served two terms at the head of the Regional Tourism Organisation.

Didier Robert will occupy that post until December 2014 in the wake of Festival freedom of Métis from the island of Reunion and will be replaced on the principle of a rotating Presidency by a representative of Madagascar at the head of the vanilla Islands.

The Minister of tourism of Mauritius, Michael Sik Yuen, and the Minister of tourism of Madagascar, Benjamina Ramarcel Ramanantsoa, were also candidates.

The president of the Reunion Region and vanilla Islands, Didier Robert, put forward several priorities: the air service to ensure a better circulation in the heart of the Indian ocean with the support of the regional companies, access to the emitting countries like India, China, and the need for a relaxation for visas between vanilla islands but also for tourists from target (China markets (, India in particular).

The new president of the vanilla Islands stressed that "the first results obtained by the work of the vanilla Islands since two years are the demonstration that the strategy of the handsets between islands is paying".

As a reminder, the vanilla Islands  (Reunion, Seychelles, Madagascar, Mauritius, Comoros, Mayotte and the Maldives) advocate since their inception in August 2010 the re-positioning of the Indian Ocean as a tourist destination and the cohesion of these countries around this common objective.

Mauritius, Reunion, Madagascar, Seychelles, Comoros, Mayotte and the Maldives want to have greater visibility by bringing together diverse strengths within a same structure of regional tourist-oriented.

The sector tourist creator of direct and indirect jobs, real perennial lever of growth, is the basis of development initiated by the vanilla Islands.
