The National Institute of Statistics and Economic and Demographic Studies of the Comoros archipelago has recently published the monthly price index for consumer spending for the month of July 2014.

The consumer price index thus increased by 3.3% in July after a decline of 1.5% in June 2014.

This price increase is due in large part by an increase in food and non-alcoholic beverages during the holy month of Ramadan by 5.3% as well as the price of fish which climbed 19.7%.

The price of potatoes and other tuber of cassava has progressed on its side by 12.6% and that of fresh fruit increased by the same ratio. The price of vegetables was marked by a slight increase of 0.5%.

This price increase was nevertheless somewhat mitigated by a moderate fall in prices of milk, dairy products and eggs (3.6%) and meat (-1.4%), as reported by the Comorian newspaper Alwatwan.
