Representatives of the African Centre for Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT) meet in the Comoros since Monday to assess the third phase of the strategic business plan for the prevention and fight against terrorism over the past three years.

A workshop on preventive measures against terrorism is being held at the hotel Retaj Moroni, located in the center of the capital of the archipelago.

The objective of the mission of CAERT aims to ensure the implementation of the provisions of resolution 1373 dated 2001 of the Security Council of the United Nations.

In addition, it allows representatives CAERT to see firsthand the commitments made by the Comorian authorities against the scourge of terrorism following the 2002 Action Plan initiated by the African Union.

The brainstorming workshop focuses among others on the gaps in the fight against terrorism and in particular if the Comorian legislation meets the prevention against the financing of terrorism and the fight against religious extremism.

As a reminder, the Union of the Comoros which has a counter-terrorism unit (UCLAT) could get their hands on terrorist networks on several occasions including people who had influence within the population to look their charity at the religious level (building mosques and orphanages) as indicated by the lagazettedescomores.com site.

Note that the ACSRT was created in 2002 in Algiers, in accordance with the provisions contained in the Action Plan of the African Union for the prevention and the fight against terrorism.

This organization is designed to strengthen cooperation between African countries and to assist in the full implementation of the international conventions relating to terrorism.
